From InvestMood we have no doubt about May has been a month full of emotions: the commercial battle between China and the United States, the European elections, and the Spanish municipal and regional elections are some of the events that characterized the month of May. But today we want to focus on a hobby shared by millions of spectators: football. The final of the Champions League has made us wonder what is the impact of "Sports Sentiment" in the market. On next AEEDM Congress, Japan September 2019, we will participate with an essay on the impact of sports, especially football, on markets, we wanted to make a small analytical reflection on this.

Raúl Gómez has validated in this essay the hypothesis that a portfolio management strategy, based exclusively on "sport sentiment" is profitable. For this, the Juventus, PSG and Bayer München teams and their respective indexes (MIB, CAC, DAX) have been taken as a sample. Using the Trading Motion SDK for the backtesting, it has been observed that the MIB and the DAX rise when Juventus and Bayer obtain victories, while the CAC goes down after the matches won by the PSG. Consequently, a system that bets for a long position after the victories of Juventus and Bayer and the defeats or draws of PSG, and takes opposite positions with the other result is profitable as can be seen in the image.
